Originally designed as an integrated Imaging Centre , the CNS Centre, is one of many buildings set within the main SLaM Denmark Hill Hospital Campus. It is adjoining a five-storey Research block occupied by KCL and SLaM and there was a need to upgrade the Imaging equipment within it. This particular project was carried out in a "live" Clinical environment meeting the needs of the SLaM Hospital Team.
We were engaged by M&O ,the Main Contractors ,who had a direct award from GE Healthcare, the Suppliers of the new Medical equipment , namely in this occasion, a new 1.5T SIGNA ARTIST MRI.
The facility is used for both Clinical alongside Research activities/operations for the SLaM Hospital.
Whilst the ancillary areas largely remained the same, the works entailed a fair degree of stripping out but maintaining services to adjacent live Imaging Facilities. A new replacement RF Cage complete with a new viewing screen into a Control Room along with appropriate waveguides and filter plates was installed. In addition to the  provision of clinical-grade and HTM/HBN compliant furniture, fixtures, fittings and finishes. The main plant items serving the MRI itself were located within a new shared Equipment space with an adjacent SIGNA PREMIER 3T MRI , again by GE Healthcare. Finally, due to its age, the main plant items also required replacement and these were carried out at roof level. In addition within a controlled external fenced area at Ground Level, further plant was installed to suit the exact requirements as stipulated within the GE Healthcare Guidelines.
